Calculating Your Disk Usage before purchasing a CamelBackup solution

Determining how much space you will need at CamelBackup.com, is a simple task. We detail below the basic directories we think you should include in your backup, and a simple way to discover their total usage.

We strongly recommend that you add at least an additional 10% onto any figures produced. Many of our customers that have not, quickly discover that the space used on their server rises more than they predicted and they soon excced their quota. If this does happen, CamelBackup will request you purchase additional quota.

The following instructions detail what we think would be the minimum requirements for a safe recovery of your System, however if you have extra soft ware / data files that are not included below, you can add them as you wish to gain a more accurate figure.

If you have a RaQ3 or RaQ4:

Please choose ONE of the following:

1. You can install our Cobalt/Sun Package (.pkg) that will make all the calculations for you and present you with a summary in your Servers GUInterface.
   Once Installed, click the LINK in the Installed Software page in the GUI.

2. or Log into Shell (SSH/Telnet) as 'root', and type this single line command:

   du -csh /etc /var/spool /home/spool /home/sites /home/pgsql /var/lib/pgsql

   You may add or remove directories as you wish. (Note this attempts to calculate the usage for both a RaQ3 & a RaQ4, as the GUI Database is in a different place for these two machines it WILL produce an error which CAN safely be ignored!)

For all Other Systems:

You need to add any extra directories to the following.
Log into Shell (SSH/Telnet) as 'root', and type this single line command:

du -csh /etc /var/spool /home/spool /home/sites /var/named
